The Creed

Why the DJ matters more than you think

I believe the DJ is one of the most important decisions you'll make when planning an event. A great DJ does much more than play music โ€” they set the mood, create the energy, and guide the celebration through every important moment. From the first guest to arrive until the last song of the night, the right music at the right time keeps people connected, engaged, and making memories they'll never forget.

When I think back to the best parties, school dances, weddings, and celebrations I've attended, one thing they all had in common was a DJ who understood the crowd. They weren't the center of attention, but they were always paying attention โ€” reading the room, adjusting the energy, and making every transition feel effortless. That's what inspired me to become a DJ.

I became a DJ because I love music and because I've seen the incredible way it brings people together. Music has the power to create excitement, spark memories, and connect people from every generation. There is nothing quite like watching a dance floor come alive when the perfect song starts to play.

Those are the moments I live for. Seeing people smile, sing along, dance with family and friends, and forget about everything else for a few hours is why I do this. Behind the DJ booth, you may not always see it, but I'm smiling too โ€” because creating those moments isn't just my job, it's my passion.

Why "Smilin' Jack"

โ€œPeople often ask why I'm called DJ Smilin' Jack. The answer is simple. When I see a packed dance floor, hear people singing at the top of their lungs, and watch families making memories together, I can't help but smile. That's why I became a DJ, and that's why I still love every event I have the privilege to be a part of.โ€

See It

This is what it looks like

Guests dancing in a cloud of bubbles under yellow umbrellas
An evening crowd on the dance floor lit by hanging lanterns

Warm party lights out of focus at night

Everything you see here is mine โ€” the sound, the lighting, the gig bar, the bubbles. I show up with it, set it up, and take it down.

What It Costs

Let's talk about money

Most DJ websites won't tell you what they charge. I think that's annoying, so here it is.

Most events start around $500.

That covers loading up my equipment, driving to you, three hours of music, and packing out. If your event is close by and straightforward, that's the number.

From there it moves, and it's worth understanding why โ€” because some of what moves it is up to you.

What moves it up

  • Longer events
  • A longer drive
  • Full MC and coordination
  • Heavy planning โ€” weddings especially
  • Peak dates
  • Add-on packages

What keeps it down

  • Shorter events
  • Close to home
  • Music only, no MC
  • Weeknights and off-season
  • A cause I care about

Extras you can add

Each of these adds to the cost. What it comes to depends on your event, and I'll give you a real number when we talk.

Custom event banner Designed for your event, and it's yours to keep afterward.
Bubble machine Exactly as fun as it sounds.
Lighting package Turns a room into a room where people dance.
Custom shirts or hats If you want them, ask.

The honest answer is that I can't quote you from a webpage โ€” a backyard graduation party and a full wedding aren't the same job. But you shouldn't have to guess, either. Fill out the form and we'll get on the phone for half an hour, and I'll give you a real number.

How It Works

From "maybe" to booked, in four steps

No mystery, no surprises about when money is due.

1

Tell me about it

Fill out the form. Takes about a minute.

2

We talk it through

Within two or three days I'll reach out to set up a 30-minute call or Zoom. You'll get a ballpark price.

3

We meet in person

An hour or so. We go through every detail and I give you the final number.

4

You're booked

You put down a deposit, we sign a simple contract, and your date is locked in.

I don't book events I haven't talked through with someone first. This is a personal thing โ€” I'm going to be in the middle of one of the more important nights you'll have, and we should both feel good about that before anyone signs anything.

Let's talk about your event.

Takes about a minute. I'll get back to you within a few days.

I only take two events a month, so every one gets my full attention. If your date matters, reach out early.
